Camp blankets are entirely optional but are a great way to store the badges your child can no longer wear on their uniform and create a lasting keepsake. You are not restricted to just putting Scout badges on a camp blanket, you can add as many as you like from holidays, swimming, special occasions… whatever you want! A guide to sewing on badges can be found on the badges page .
There is also no official camp blanket, however, we do have a few recommendations.
- Don’t get a blanket made from polyester or synthetic fibres as these can melt onto your child if they catch fire
- Don’t get a blanket labelled with a particular section e.g. Squirrels as it is likely when they are older they won’t want this blanket any more and you’ll have to transfer all the badges over to a new one
We personally like the official Scouts one linked below but we do appreciate it is expensive and very large and heavy particularly for Squirrels. That being said it will last forever if looked after – we know adults in their 40s and 50s who still have the same scout blanket from when they where kids.

This blanket can be bought from the Doncaster District Scout Store (details on the uniform page) or from Scouts online store using the link below.
Some leaders and young people choose to turn their blanket into a wearable poncho.
